The veteran Hip-Hop artist, DJ, actor and CEO of GrownFolk Entertainment has been putting in work in Northeast Florida for more than a decade and is renowned not only for his ability to rock a crowd with a microphone and a turntable, but for also having a work ethic that is tireless and unmatched. The key to Mr. Al Pete’s success has been his genuine love for all things Hip-Hop and music in general and his earnest desire to push the movement further. In February of 2009, Mr. Al Pete released his critically acclaimed debut album, Talk About It, to an audience, ravenous for lyrics and beats with substance and Talk About It did not disappoint. Scott Harrell of Reax Magazine wrote that Talk About It was “Reminiscent of old-school crews like Boogie Down Productions and Gang Starr while simultaneously light and soulful in its own original way.” And more than two years since its release, Talk About It, is still being “talked about”, as it is a fan favorite.
As one of the most visible and vocal advocates for artists working together to build and strengthen the region’s promising independent artist’s community, Mr. Al Pete is Duval’s most sought after artist for collaborative efforts. In the winter of 2009, he released Mr. Al Pete and Notsucal Presents: G3.0 with producer, Notsucal, followed by Jewelz and Heirlooms…Vol. 1 as a member of Hip-Hop ensemble, The Famili. In the 4th quarter of 2010, he released the HNIC Mixtape with DJ KGB and January of 2011 saw the release of AAA with Average Jo Productions and fellow The Famili member, Alias. He has appeared on all 3 volumes of Average Jo Productions, Life is Music compilation series and is the performer of the Jacksonville Giants ABA team theme song, Giant’s Theme. As an emcee, Mr. Al Pete loves being on the stage, rocking with the crowd, feeding off of their energy and is known to be an electrifying and energetic performer. In addition to rocking stages in various east coast cities, he has been a repeat performer at some of the Southeast’s seminal Hip-Hop festivals like Summertime in the City in Jacksonville, Florida, Savannah Urban Arts Festival in Savannah, Georgia and Atlanta’s A3C Festival which he has performed at for the past 2 years.
