Born and raised in the Arlington aka Gnarlington area of Jacksonville, Florida, D.A.R.Y.L. is a songwriter and emcee that is one of the Southeast’s best representatives of true school Hip-Hop and musical artistry. D.A.R.Y.L. began b-boying during the Golden Era of Hip-Hop after he was introduced to the art form by his older brother and immediately fell in love with the culture which he credits with giving birth to D.A.R.Y.L., the emcee. With influences like EPMD, Gangstarr and The Native Tongues collective, as well as his brother, friends and their respective crews, D.A.R.Y.L. soaked in all things Hip-Hop and music in general as he began to make his rounds and a name for himself in Jacksonville’s burgeoning Hip-Hop community. As one of the few emcee’s from the Arlington community at the time, D.A.R.Y.L. was a standout in Jacksonville’s Hip-Hop community for his witty, quick thinking approach to emceeing, a skill which he honed by battling the scenes veterans at a young age.
In the summer of 2010, D.A.R.Y.L. released his debut solo album, 7 Bridges, as an ode to his city of birth Jacksonville, Florida, which famously features, seven bridges throughout its incredible landscape. On 7 Bridges, D.A.R.Y.L. enlisted seven of the areas most talented and respected beatmakers and producers to create an exceptional Hip-Hop album that pays homage to the original boom bap that Hip-Hop heads first fell in love with while also managing to push the genre further into the future. Aside from his solo efforts, D.A.R.Y.L. also goes by the alter ego, Nomad, one half of Hip-Hop duo, The N Word, with his longtime friend and associate, Notsucal. To date, The N Word has released three projects, Nomad and Notsucal Presents…The N Word LP (and EP), Nomad and Notsucal Presents…The N Word…The Collection and Nomad Presents… D.A.R.Y.L. The Mixtape. D.A.R.Y.L. is also known for his energetic and vigorous stage show having opened up for underground Hip-Hop heavyweights like Planet Asia, Akrobatik and Paten Locke. And he has also participated in Jacksonville annual Hip-Hop festival, Summertime in the City and was featured on the Summertime in the City/Hip Hop Hell Mixtape which was sponsored by Scion.
As a songwriter, emcee and a man, D.A.R.Y.L. feels that his greatest strength lies in his ability to adapt to many different situations and circumstances, with relative ease. Growing up in a military town and in a neighborhood known more for its skateboarders and soccer players than Hip-Hop emcees, D.A.R.Y.L. understood the need for versatility at a young age. He also spent time, living throughout Europe, further cementing his eclectic tastes and viewpoints. D.A.R.Y.L. uses these experiences to his advantage, setting him apart from his peers and being one of the most well-rounded emcee’s that the Southeast has ever witnessed. His personal goal is to continue to make good music for himself and the masses, while staying true to the tenets of Hip-Hop and music in general, a goal which undoubtedly be fulfilled, judging by his body of work, thus far.
D.A.R.Y.L. shows no signs of slowing down. He released his most recent lyrical onslaught on the album "Water Under The Bridge" in September 2011
